A ship’s rudder

Good morning, have you ever imagined how such large ships change direction in the water. This is done by a rather small rudder at the back. or aft, of the ship. Although it is said that the rudder turns the ship, the rudder merely influences the forces that would cause the ship to change direction. Without going into the physics of a turning ship, one should also compare a ships rudder to influences that cause one to change direction in life. These can be philosophies and opinions shared in books, on television, multimedia, in classrooms, on playgrounds or just between two friends. Direction in life is as important as appetite, it causes progress and gives a positive outlook on life. Nothing worse than a boat speeding up in circles going nowhere soon.

Albeit the best rudder for life is God’s Holy Spirit, it can cause a shift in direction linked to God’s compass so that the individual is moved from dull to great, form impoverished to empowered, from beaten to being victorious. Take courage in knowing if Jesus is captain of the Ship, the Holy Spirit will influence the direction, counteracting the storms of life. James 3:4 Or think of a ship: big as it is and driven by such strong winds, it can be steered by a very small rudder, and it goes wherever the pilot wants it to go. When one faces the winds, waves, and storms just keep Jesus at the helm, one should not be influenced by agendas and philosophies that will cause a detrimental change of direction.

Dear Jesus, remain at the helm of my life, teach me by the Holy Spirit, help me hear the right messages and to have faith in you for the direction and destination of my life. I pray this Father so that my family and I would be protected, Amen. Dr Cliff Ferguson – Shalom Centurion.
