Because of one’s spiritual makeup and formation, there are a number of things that can be triggers for feeling anxious. These include but are not limited to, a specific event in the day, a build-up of stress, sudden change or uncertainty, undue work or relationship pressures, studies, working hours, loss of a job, money problems, health issues, death in the family or physical and mental abuse. Theses triggers of anxiety, relate past experiences, mostly remembering what was not pleasant.
There is a way way to clear the mind of the anxious feelings, first take a helicopter view of the situation, look at it from all angles, even that of a possible opponent. Secondly be reminded that you are not alone, God and others are there for you. Finally apply the following scripture to the day:
The LORD has spoken. This day is one of victory, don’t be anxious, put fear of the past one side and believe that this day will be successful in every way. The inner strength comes for God through the Holy Spirit.
Dear Lord, I pray that you will bring my mind to a clear state of calm, make me positive and make me forget the past so that I can face the present. This new day is built on God’s grace by feeling sure about myself and the way God plans my life for me. Your will be done, Amen. Dr Cliff Ferguson – Shalom Centurion.
