Great Escape

God is always ahead of our situations. Historians speak to the largest prison escape in history. In 1971, a 45-meter-long tunnel was dug and 111 political prisoners, including future president José Mujica, escaped from the high security Punta Carretas Penitentiary in Montevideo, Uruguay. Turning to the Old Testament, Joshua sent two spies into the city of Jericho, to understand the promised Land, Canaan.

The men said to her, “May God take our lives if we don’t do as we say! If you do not tell anyone what we have been doing, we promise you that when the LORD gives us this land, we will treat you well.”

Joshua 2:14 &15 (GNB)

Rahab lived in a house built into the city wall, so she let the men down from the window by a rope. As these men escaped from Jericho, so too many people are trying to escape from their personal situations. These range from poverty, marital issues, addiction, disease, financial, family or even from a job they hate. For some it seems there is no escape from the dilemmas life brings. The song Rock of Ages, cleft for me comes to mind, the spiritual escape into the Rock, away from tragedy is available. Just put your trust in God today, he can arrange your escape, He can hide you, protect and guide you so that your darkness can turn to light.

Dear Lord, I long for a change in my situations, there where I feel trapped and imprisoned. Set my mind free today so that I may see possibilities through your greatness. I know you have the best plan and I will be led by your Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name, Amen. Dr Cliff Ferguson – Shalom Centurion.
