Here is hoping you had a good night’s rest.

Glucose metabolism in the brain increases during deep sleep, supporting short-term and long-term memory and overall learning. Deep sleep is also when the pituitary gland secretes important hormones, like human growth hormone, leading to growth and development of the body.

During deep sleep, the body works to repair muscle, organs, and other cells. Chemicals that strengthen the immune system start to circulate in the blood. One spends about a fifth of the night’s sleep in deep sleep and more if one has not slept enough. Depriving oneself of sleep is dangerous, it is like having a great house and not maintaining it. Even worse, the unmaintained brain brings about, amongst others, thinking and emotional problems.

So too the spiritual rest is equally important, and resting in the spirit requires a spiritual sense, backdrop, surrounding, worship, and the Word of God.

Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

Depriving oneself of God time, which includes church meetings, prayer time, worship, anytime and place dedicated to communicating with God. When the spirit is maintained by Godly intervention, the mind and body are prepared for shock, turbulence, stress and the like. When one is well rested, the normal burdens of life are well adjusted to emotionally.

Dear Lord, help me to adjust my lifestyle to ensure I get enough spiritual and bodily rest. I need to rest spiritually in your presence, where I feel loved, comforted, purposeful and free. Announce heavenly blessing on life so that my spiritual and societal purpose can be fulfilled without emotional trauma. Bless all my loved ones in this day, Amen.
