Love, a basic need

Have you woken up to love today? Studies done on orphans show that they fail to thrive without loving human contact, even though the basic needs of survival in the way of food, clothing, and shelter have been met. Turns out, love is a basic human need, a must for our very survival. Humans have an intense desire to be loved and nurtured. The need to be loved, as experiments by Bowlby and others have shown, could be considered one of our most basic and fundamental needs. One of the forms that this need takes is contact comfort—the desire to be held and touched. Adding to this is a desire Humans must be loved and nurtured by God.

Jesus confirms how to his disciples in John 14:21 “Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. My Father will love those who love me; I too will love them and reveal myself to them.” To have God’s love revealed to one means that their must a touch and holding involved. Each time a person prays with love, there is a personal spiritual bond called upon in the heavens. The expected touch to revive and to comfort comes through the Holy Spirit, strengthening the relationship between God and the individual. The love and nurturing from God is as impotent for the spiritual survival, as for the physical survival that requires a loving touch or cuddle.

Dear Lord, make me responsive to love around me, most of all your loving touch. Anoint me with your Spirit today, hold me, and keep me from being harmed, in Jesus’ name, Amen. Dr Cliff Ferguson – Shalom Centurion.
