For most, our day starts at many homes with the chatter of children. Globally, of the 7.9 billion people about 26% of the world, (2.1 billion) are under 15 years of age and 9%, (711 million) are over 65 years of age.
Children are the youth and young adults of tomorrow. However, what a child sees, hears and experiences in his/her surroundings is what he/she grows up to be. Parents have been given the privilege of building a foundation of character in each of their own. It is important for children to be taught about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit at home.
This is not the job of the school or even of society. As society rids itself of the concern for God, our children require an example from parents who live for and love God. Our children still need to learn the ten commandments, and parents need to act them out. Yet Jesus says this:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second most important commandment is this: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself. There is no other commandment more important than these two.
Mark 12:30 & 31 (GNB)
Who else will be able to prove these two commandments better to children than their own parents? Every day is a lesson at home, parents leading or not leading by example.
Dear Lord, make me a parent or grandparent that shows the children what is right and wrong, morally correct, or incorrect. Allow me to teach the children about you, your love and greatness. Most of all let them see Jesus in me. Thank you for protecting the children.
Amen.
