The First Christian Church Service

Ever wondered when the first Christian Church Service was held? Acts 2, on Sunday, the Day of Pentecost, either 30th May AD32 or 24th May AD33, depending on one’s historical view. Peter delivered a sermon where 3000 people converted to Christ. After that the first heathen church was started in Antioch.

Worship in the form of a song was incredibly common within the early church. Believers often sang psalms, hymns, songs of the Spirit, and also commonly sang scripture.

Acts 16:25 portrays, “About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.”

Christian fellowship, especially communion was extremely important, home churches formed all over especially after Christians were expelled from Jewish Synagogues. The power of worship and prayer moved angels to free the apostles from prison, together with miracles and the workings of the Holy Spirit.

One should never forget the roots of our Christian faith found in the book of Acts, and may I say, the Church will return to the Church of Acts in the last days with the same or more persecution. Yet, as God ensured Church growth in the first Century of Christendom, so God goes out before every true believer in the 21st Century.

Dear Lord, help me fulfil my spiritual purpose in the Kingdom of God. I will sing your praises as long as I live and will not forget the God of my salvation. Help me to have faith in you, to honour my calling in the greater church of Christ and to preach salvation through the blood of the Lamb. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
