The Golden Hour

Surfers have classed sunrise and sunset as the golden hour. At this hour the sun is low on the horizon, sunlight passes through more air and atmosphere than during the day, when the sun is higher in the sky. More atmosphere means more molecules to scatter the violet and blue light away from your eyes. In this “Golden Hour” daylight turns into a red, orange, and yellow palette of golden tones. There is nothing more pleasing and rewarding than watching the sun rise in the morning and set in the evening behind a mountain, sea trees or even in a desert.

So too as one’s day starts or ends, thoughts are scattered about on the horizon, opening or closing on important moments, those of happiness, laughter, appointments and possibly disappointments. Yet one’s “Golden hour” should bring one moments of peace and tranquility. This is a choice, as much as it is a choice to watch or ignore sunrise and sunset.

I think of it constantly, and my spirit is depressed. Yet hope returns when I remember this one thing: The LORD’s unfailing love and mercy still continue, fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise.

Lamentations 3:20 – 23 (GNB)

Take on the day with courage and in the sunshine God has given.

Dear Lord, another day has come, in my mind I have so much to achieve and to change, yet I pause in my “golden hour” to see how much you mean to me, all you have done and what great things you have lined up for me on the horizon. As I take on this day, bless each thought, action, and moment with success and joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
