Volcanic eruption and the mind

SSGS.gov cites about 1,350 potentially active volcanoes worldwide, aside from the continuous belts of volcanoes on the ocean floor at spreading centers like the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. About 500 of those 1,350 volcanoes have erupted in historical time. Many of those are located along the Pacific Rim in what is known as the “Ring of Fire.”

The temperature of lava when it is first ejected from a volcanic vent can vary between 705 and 1200 degrees Celsius. These eruptions happen because of underearth pressure build-up under the crust of the earth erupting with irreparable damage. This too happens in the mind when there is a pressure buildup of stress, problems, and life pressure.

When the pressure cannot be contained anymore the emotional erupting takes place and in some cases the aggression is visible by everyone, it leaves tracks and scars that don’t heal quickly.

Proverbs 15:18 Hot tempers cause arguments, but patience brings peace.

One should always be sure to release pressure on the mind with several activities that will release pressure through prayer, exercise, hobbies and if nothing else helps counselling. The lava of an emotional eruption cannot be taken back, it burns, breaks, and scars other innocent victims.

Dear Father, please release the pressures in my mind, fill me with patience, hope and understanding. When my coping skills fail, help me to get help, show me what’s important at that moment and release me from emotional stressors so that I can face my problems without them getting the better of me, in Jesus’ name Amen.
